What is affiliate marketing?

Posted on 06 August 2009 by Affiliate Asshole

Affiliate marketing is a form of marketing where a business agrees to pay a third party a commission for any sales generated through them.  Affiliate marketing is mainly done online, although off line marketing methods can be used to drive traffic to affiliate marketing web sites.

Let’s break it down even simpler.  Businesses need buyers for their products or services.  If you can give them a buyer, they’ll give you a commission.

Now, how do you think this all started.  Well think about it for a moment.  What was the internet used for mainly until recently.  Porn, of course.  Cyberrotica was the first to  offer a cost-per-click affiliate program.  The first non porn site to have an affiliate program was CDNOW who sold CDS.

Offline marketing has taken a huge hits because of the decreased readership of print, the DVR technology on televisions and the satellite radio.

Affiliate Marketing is the new goldrush.  Like the gold miners in California who would go to the general store and purchase a pick and a shovel and get to work, anyone can order a couple of books on amazon and build their online empire.  Don’t miss this boom.  Sign up for updates or for my feed to get the latest tutorials and news that will make you rich.

    I enjoyed the post.

I tend to stick with cost per action affiliate marketing and pay per click marketing. In my opinion it is a lot more profitable than per sale affiliate marketing.
